The Lego Brick Artist – Nathan Sawaya

Nathan Sawaya, a 33 year old New York based artist builds a living out of Lego. He left his career as a lawyer and became a Lego artist. Sawaya’s art is currently touring North American museums in a show titled ‘The Art of the Brick’. It’s the only exhibition that focus exclusively on Lego as an art medium. According to journalist Scott Jones, “Sawaya is a surrealist mash-up of forms and artists. Imagine Frank Lloyd Wright crossed with Ray Harryhausen, or Auguste Rodan crossed with Shigeru Miyamoto, and you start to get a sense of where Sawaya is coming from.”

Sawaya has also made a number of media appearance including CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman, NBC’s Today Show, ESPN’s Cold Pizza, Hollywood Reporter, Comedy Centrals’ The Colbert Report and Variety.
